The King's Speech: How King George Overcame His Stutter Struggle

The King's Speech: How King George Overcame His Stutter StrugglePrince Albert, a.k.a. England's King George VI was never supposed to be King George VI at all. In fact, his older brother, Edward, was the country's reigning monarch until he abdicated to marry a divorcée. And thus, soft spoken stammering George was thrust into a position of power on the eve of the second world war.

So he turns to an unorthodox Australian speech therapist named Lionel Logue. At the time seeking this kind of help was an unheard of solution for a royal. And the clock is working against him—George must be ready to deliver his first radio address when England declares war on Germany in 1939.

The King's Speech is a fantastic film—it won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (for Colin Firth as George), and Best Screenplay at the 2011 Academy Awards. Bonus fun fact: parts of it were filmed on the same set used for a porno just weeks earlier. [Netflix]
