BlackBerry Z10 live on T-Mobile website: $100 down payment or $532 up front

BlackBerry Z10 live on TMobile website $100 on contract or $532 up front

Just ahead of T-Mobile's event in New York City, we've noticed that the carrier has already listed the BlackBerry Z10 on its website. It looks like the smartphone will be available for a $100 down payment with a $18 monthly installment for 24 months, though the UnCarrier also lists the BB Z10 for $532 up front. Notably, the handset's page says it supports 4G LTE -- and we imagine we'll hear a good deal more about T-Mobile's network plans when the event kicks off in just a bit.

ZTE V81 tablet shows up in website ahead of MWC, touts 8-inch display and Jelly Bean

ZTE V81 tablet shows up in website ahead of MWC, touts 8inch display and Jelly Bean

Not quite content with the release of its Grand S earlier this month, ZTE looks to be preparing a new tablet to go along with that aforementioned flagship handset. The V81 -- which will presumably make its official debut at this year's Mobile World Congress -- is, according to the company's own website, said to be boasting an 8-inch (1,024 X 768) display with a dual-core, 1.4GHz CPU (mum's the word on chipset specifics), 1GB RAM and 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded to up to 32GB via microSD. Speaking of which, other listed incisions include a full-size USB and HDMI, while a 3,700 mAh battery and Android Jelly Bean are also part of the relatively decent spec sheet. Naturally, pricing and availability details are still slim, but it shouldn't be too long before we learn more on that front -- in the meantime, there's a gallery filled with V81 press shots after the break for you to peruse over.ZTE V81 tabletSee all photoswhen.eng("eng.galleries.init")

Zenbook Touch U500VZ quietly surfaces on ASUS website, price and availability still MIA

Zenbook Touch U500VZ surfaces on ASUS website

A 15-inch Zenbook Touch U500VZ has quietly appeared on ASUS' website. Though the company has yet to announce this model officially, it's hardly a surprise, as its 13-inch UX31A is already available with a capacitive display, and the line's 11-inch models are confirmed to get touchscreens as well. Essentially, it looks to be the UX51Vz with a touch panel, as this machine's other specs look familiar. It packs a Core i7-3632QM processor, discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M graphics and dual 256GB SSDs. Naturally, the touchscreen features IPS technology and boasts the same 1080p resolution as other Zenbooks. Though the laptop is listed online, price and availability aren't yet clear, but for now you can click through to the website and feast your eyes.

Sony's website leaks photos of Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia ZL

You might recall that Sony was readying a couple of high-end Android models called Yuga and Odin. Just the other day, it turned out that the Yuga was purportedly renamed the Sony Xperia Z. And Sony's own website not only has a press shot of the Sony Xperia Z, but also shows off the Odin, which also has been renamed, to the Sony Xperia ZL. The speculation is that the Sony Xperia Z will be made available in the Japanese market while the slightly sleeker Sony Xperia ZL will be available in the rest of the world. Besides being a little more slender, the Xperia ZL also has its front facing camera at the bottom right of the device instead of on the top as with the other model. Sony has yet to announce the specs, but the word is that both models will offer a 5 inch LCD display with 1080p, 441ppi pixel density, with a quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor driving the phone. We'd bet it is the APQ8064 doing the heavy lifting, with the Adreno 320 handling the graphics. Did we mention the 2GB of RAM? No? Ok, both models are rumored to have 2GB of RAM and a 13MP Exmor RS camera sensor on back. Android 4.1.2 is pre-installed and LTE connectivity is expected.

One recent report had Sony introducing the Sony Xperia Z at CES 2013 in Las Vegas on January 8th and then launching it exactly one week later on January 15th. Perhaps as we get closer to CES, Sony will reveal some more official word about the their two new flagship handsets.

Website helps Dutch Catholics "de-baptize" over gay marriage

AMSTERDAM | Thu Dec 27, 2012 12:00pm EST

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Thousands of Dutch Catholics are researching how they can leave the church in protest at its opposition to gay marriage, according to the creator of a website aimed at helping them find the information.

Tom Roes, whose website allows people to download the documents needed to leave the church, said traffic on ontdopen.nl - "de-baptise.nl" - had soared from about 10 visits a day to more than 10,000 after Pope Benedict's latest denunciation of gay marriage this month.

"Of course it's not possible to be 'de-baptized' because a baptism is an event, but this way people can unsubscribe or de-register themselves as Catholics," Roes told Reuters.

He said he did not know how many visitors to the site actually go ahead and leave the church.

About 28 percent of the population in the Netherlands is Catholic and 18 percent is Protestant, while a much larger proportion - roughly 44 percent - is not religious, according to official statistics.

The country is famous for its liberal attitudes, for example to drugs and prostitution, and in April 2001 it was the first in the world to legalize same-sex marriages.

In a Christmas address to Vatican officials, the pope signaled the he was ready to forge alliances with other religions against gay marriage, saying the family was threatened "to its foundations" by attempts to change its "true structure".

Roes, a television director, said he left the church and set up his website partly because he was angry about the way the church downplayed or covered-up sexual abuse in Catholic orphanages, boarding schools and seminaries.

A report by an independent commission published a year ago said there had been tens of thousands of victims of child sexual abuse in the Netherlands since 1945 and criticized the church's culture of silence.
