As part of the deal, all existing O2 customers signed up to O2 WiFi will be automatically registered for free WiFi on the Underground, taking away the need to sign up above ground or remembering a password.

Virgin Media also confirmed another 12 London Underground (LU) stations are coming online this week, including Bank, Baker Street and Earl's Court. This brings the total number of WiFi enabled stations to 120, meeting Virgin Media's and TfL's target of 120 London Underground stations online.

Mark Williamson, Head of London WiFi at Virgin Media said: "WiFi on London Underground has gone from strength to strength and we're delighted the majority of Londoners are staying connected for no extra cost. Gareth Powell, Director of Strategy and Service Development for London Underground, said: "Having O2 on board is excellent news for the thousands of people that use the Tube everyday. Most customers will now be able to access live travel information or use social media to plan their social life while on the move.

"WiFi on the Tube is part of how we are improving services for our customers. 2013 is London Underground's 150th anniversary, we were at the forefront of technology when the first Underground train ran and this shows how we are maintaining that tradition, using modern technology to improve customers' journeys."

Virgin Media's comprehensive WiFi portal will continue to keep all Tube passengers up-to-date with TfL travel information and great London entertainment and news for free. Virgin Media also offers a Pay As You Go service with daily, weekly and monthly passes, giving Tube passengers a range of options about how to get online underground.

US Cellular to spread its LTE wings to 87 percent of customers by year's end

While it's only the nation's eighth largest carrier, US Cellular is said to be well on its way to covering 87 percent of its customer base -- that's more than 3,800 additional cities and towns -- with the sweet speed of LTE by the end of 2013. In a statement released today, the carrier said "select cities" in California, Kansas and Nebraska will see US Cellular-flavored LTE for the first time. They include Lincoln and Omaha in Nebraska, Manhattan in Kansas, and Eureka and Ukiah in California. Existing LTE areas in Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin will expand to other cities as well. That's an increase of about 26 percent since its last LTE outbreak, though US Cellular has not yet revealed the exact timeline of these rollouts just yet. In the meantime, we'd check US Cellular's 4G coverage map to see if you're in one of the speed-blessed zones. Just don't hit that F5 button too often, eh?

Sprint announced its quarterly (and annual) results today, with overall revenues totaling $9 billion, up from the preceding quarter. Its wireless services formed $7 billion of that, but Hurricane Sandy was responsible for a $45 million hit to its bottom line. Sprint added that it's been able to sell 2.2 million iPhones, while its LTE network, launched last July, now handles more than 3 million connections. The network picked up 401,000 new post-paid subscribers in the process, but according to the figures, shedded 1 million existing ones from the Nextel part of the business. Its future owner, Softbank, was briefly mentioned in passing -- the Now Network received a $3.1 billion bond from the Japanese phone network for the merger.

BT offers mobile cloud storage service to broadband customers in the UK

BT offers cloud storage service to broadband customers in the UK

Your BT broadband account now comes with one more perk to justify its existence: a locker service that takes a leaf out of AT&T's book in offering online storage accessible via iOS and Android apps. How much you get depends on the value of your current contract, with an apparent minimum of 2GB and upgrade options extending up to 500GB. If your cloud needs aren't already being catered for, hunt down those BT login details and then use the links below to activate the service and pick up the app. Think of it as a 2GB gift horse.

EE and Vodafone customers to get free Wi-Fi on the Tube next year

EE and Vodafone customers to get free Wi-Fi on the Tube next yearBad news for London-based 3 and O2 customers then, eh

After this morning's will-they-won't-they debacle it has now been comfirmed that EE will be giving its customers free Wi-Fi access on the London Underground from next year.

As an added bonus, Vodafone has also joined the scheme which sees the two networks becoming wholesale partners with Virgin Media.

Virgin switched on the subterranean web access at the start of the Olympic Summer and has extended universal free access until early 2013.

At that point, you'll need to be a Virgin Media, EE, Orange, T-Mobile or Vodafone customer to keep surfing for free, otherwise you'll have to pay for web access.

Virgin Media's Pay As You Go service will launch in the new year, with daily, weekly and monthly passes starting from £2 per day.

The Wi-Fi is available on the platforms of 72 tube stations at present, and will be coming to a further 20 stations in December 2012 and another 28 in early 2013.

The next 20 stations are Oval, Holloway Road, Clapham Common, Chalk Farm, Bounds Green, Mornington Crescent, Hampstead, Lancaster Gate, South Kensington, Notting Hill Gate, Belsize Park, Russell Square, Balham, Camden Town, Finsbury Park, Highgate, Seven Sisters, Swiss Cottage, Turnpike Lane and Wood Green.
