Pizza Hut app comes to Xbox 360, unstoppable force meets immovable gamer

Pizza Hut app coming to Xbox 360 owners it was inevitable, really

Let's be frank: many dedicated console gamers among us have at least briefly dreamed of ordering food without having to lift our hands from the controller. That's about to be more than a fleeting fantasy for Xbox 360 owners, as Microsoft is launching a Pizza Hut app today for those permanently lodged in the living room. The release puts all of the delivery menu a quick hop away on the Dashboard, including custom orders. Buyers can tempt their friends through Facebook, and there's even Kinect support for greasy-handed customers who'd rather not touch the gamepad (or a napkin, apparently) when requesting a second serving. Microsoft stresses that the Pizza Hut partnership isn't the start of a broad trend toward ordering real products through an Xbox, which is just as well -- our arteries can only take so much inactivity at once.

New Nissan Leaf comes to the UK with battery leasing option, extended range

NEW NISSAN LEAF: MORE AFFORDABLE, MORE FLEXIBLE

New British-built version boasts over 100 improvementsThree trim levels offer buyers plenty of choiceBattery leasing available for the first timeEnhanced battery warranty gives added peace of mind

The next generation of Nissan's all-electric LEAF has arrived – and for the first time, buyers can lease batteries for the 100% electric car and choose one of three trim levels.

A new pricing structure has been introduced to reflect the three trim levels and the battery-leasing options now available – but things are far from complicated. Cars bought with leased batteries will be known as 'Flex' models and buyers will be able to get behind the wheel of an entry-level Visia LEAF .

The new LEAF features more than 100 improvements over its predecessor – many of which were made as a result of feedback from Nissan's active community of LEAF owners.

Most notably, the car's range has been extended from 109 miles to 124 miles. And its battery is capable of recharging in about half the time of the first-generation LEAF.

The longer range has been achieved by improving the LEAF's aerodynamics and its regenerative braking system and a more efficient E-powertrain. The real world range has also been improved with the introduction of a new heating system which is 70 per cent more efficient through the use of a heat pump in the system.

But that's far from the whole story. New interior trim, the addition of Nissan's Around View Monitor technology and new suspension settings specifically tailored for European roads build on the LEAF's unique driving experience.

The three trim levels available to buyers are Visia, Acenta and Tekna. All models have increased boot space because of the relocation of the charging point and an enhanced interior trim. There is a height adjust facility on both front seats and more foot space for passengers.

At the top of the range, Tekna features a BOSE™ energy-efficient sound system with a subwoofer and seven speakers. In addition, there are 17-inch alloys and LED headlamps.

Whichever route buyers choose to LEAF ownership, peace of mind is assured with Nissan's enhanced battery warranty. The warranty on the previous-generation LEAF's battery covered it against defective materials or workmanship for five years. The extended warranty also protects against capacity loss, with a commitment to repair or replace a battery which falls short of what might reasonably be expected***.

Nissan's announcement of a new era for emission-free motoring continues to drive the electric revolution forward. Owning an electric car has never been more appealing. Some of the benefits are well-known, such as the lack of Vehicle Excise Duty and exemption from the London congestion charge, but it's becoming easier to charge up a Nissan LEAF on the move with more public charging points opening all the time. And of course, the cost of a full battery charge is a fraction of the price of a tank of petrol.

Jim Wright, Managing Director of Nissan Motor (GB) Ltd, said: "We are very proud of the new Nissan LEAF, which underlines our commitment to the future of electric motoring.

"With more than 100 improvements over the outgoing model, it really does mark the next stage in the electric motoring revolution. Built at our record-breaking Sunderland plant for British drivers using British roads, we're looking forward to it becoming our next home-grown success story."

The GALAXY Mega will be available globally beginning May from Europe and Russia. The product availability varies by market and will be rolled out gradually.

Apple proposes iPad wireless charging with a difference: power comes from the Smart Cover

Apple proposes iPad wireless charging with a difference power comes from the Smart Cover

Remember when Apple's Phil Schiller mentioned he wasn't into wireless charging? Well, what he specifically said was that he didn't dig "having to create another [charging] device you have to plug into the wall." In other words, Apple is probably looking for a simpler way to make the idea work -- and that's exactly what we're looking at in the patent drawings above, which are currently being weighed up by the USPTO after having been submitted back in 2011. They show an iPad's Smart Cover tricked out with an "inductive power transmitter" arranged to "wirelessly pass power" to a receiver housed within the tablet itself. The application mainly focuses on the use of magnetic attachments to trigger charging when the cover is closed, but it looks like the ultimate goal might be to use the cover as an additional battery that can keep an iPad charged up while it's on the move. That certainly sounds practical enough -- and it'd do away with the need for an additional charging accessory, which ought to keep Schiller happy for a while.

Wunderlist 2 task app hits Android tablets, comes to iPad soon

Wunderlist 2 task app hits Android tablets, comes to iPad soon

How quickly they grow up: 6Wunderkinder's near-ubiquitous Wunderlist 2 only just reached native app status as 2012 wound to a close, and it's already being optimized for Android tablets. The task management app should now offer its to-do lists and reminders on Google-powered slates of any size, with new layouts and artwork just for the bigger screen. Every Android user gets a handful of meaningful upgrades in the process, including list sharing between apps, the ability to save links and test as well as automatic syncing. Android fans wanting to get things done can hit the Google Play link to get the new version today, but they won't be the only ones getting the larger experience -- the developer is teasing an iPad equivalent in the near future.

MoviePass app comes to Android with $30/mo theater access, caveats

MoviePass brings unlimited theater access to invited Android film buffs for $30mo

For film buffs who prefer the really big-screen experience, MoviePass seems a no brainer -- pay around $30 per month and watch as many movies at the cinema as you want. Now Android users can get the same MoviePass app as their iOS-toting counterparts on Google Play, albeit with the same kickers: its still in beta and is invitation only. There are other constraints too, for now: you'll need a GPS-equipped smartphone, access is limited to one movie a day, the price goes up from $30 depending on your market and you'll have to pay with the included MoviePass card -- among others. Still, on top of access the app also lets you find showtimes, chart your movie-going, manage rewards, share socially and "even reserve a copy of the film and soundtrack you just saw," according to the outfit. Anything that encourages us to get out of the house occasionally has to be a good thing, considering all the tech keeping us there.

Jurassic Park 3D Blu-ray comes home April 23rd after its one-week theatrical return

Jurassic Park 3D Bluray comes home April 23rd after its oneweek theatrical return

We've known since last year that Jurassic Park would make its return to theaters in 3D this April, but now Universal has also dropped the details about its Blu-ray 3D release, as well as the 2D release of all the flicks individually in March. Just to fill in the timeline: first Jurassic Park 1, 2 and 3 will hit Blu-ray/DVD individually (following the triple pack that shipped in 2011) on March 26th, then Jurassic Park in 3D arrives April 5th in regular and IMAX theaters (no, the now-dated CGI has not been redone, you can get a peek in the trailer embedded after the break) followed finally by the Blu-ray 3D April 26th.

While news that the flick is back on the big screen is exciting, we can't help but think there's a few missed opportunities here like the previously mentioned CGI, and lack of any extras detailing the conversion process on the disc. Still, some had complaints about the picture quality of the previous release and it's possible that remastering done in the name of 3D could see a better version this time around for all viewers. Either way, after Titanic, I, Robot and even Top Gun seeing 3D re-release it appears this is definitely a trend. The individual movies are priced at $24.49 on Amazon, and the 3D combo pack is $34.99.

NVIDIA TegraZone Comes to Windows RT, Brings Tegra 3-optimized Gaming Goodness

avatar

Having its Tegra 3 SoC chosen for two platform-defining tablets, the Google Nexus 7 and the Microsoft Surface RT, has got to be one of the highlights of NVIDIA's year. However, the company is not content merely with design wins. This is evident from its TegraZone initiative, a one-stop shop for Tegra-optimized games and outright exclusives. Till now restricted to Android, the TegraZone app is now available for the two-month-old Windows RT.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone, as back at the time of the Surface RT's launch in October NVIDIA had announced that it would "extend its popular TegraZone application to Windows RT to make it easy for gamers to identify the most compelling games for Tegra-powered Windows RT devices."

Available now from the Windows Store, the Windows RT TegraZone app currently offers Tegra 3-optimized versions of Judge Dredd vs Zombies, Pinball FX 2, Reckless Racing Ultimate, Riptide GP, Soulcraft, Space Ark, Sprinkle and Vendetta Online. According to NVIDIA, the TegraZone versions of these games contain a number of enhancements over the ones available from the Windows, including realistic physics, dynamic lighting and particle effects.

"NVIDIA offers one of the largest developer relations teams in the world – a dedicated support team of over 100 employees to help Windows RT and Android developers create games that take advantage of the ultra-efficient power of the quad-core Tegra 3 processor," the company wrote in a blog post announcing the TegraZone Windows RT app.

"With over 6 million downloads for Android devices, TegraZone is primed to make a splash on Windows RT."

Skydrive comes to Xbox 360: wave at your photos

Skydrive comes to Xbox 360: wave at your photosCan't wait to see those waffle cones on the big screen

You can now access your SkyDrive photos and documents from your Xbox 360 thanks to Microsoft's new app.

As well as letting you call up your cloud-stored bits and pieces on the big screen, SkyDrive app for Xbox also supports Kinect voice and gesture control so you can flail about and yell at it as well.

The Xbox app means you can now access Sky Drive from your television as well as through your Windows Phone, your PC and your web browser.

One thing that Microsoft thinks you'll find particularly nifty is the ability to take a picture on your phone and have it show on the TV screen almost instantly; this "feels like magic!" according to the Redmond brigade.

We were really hoping for something a bit more spectacular from magic, like, say, time travel or the ability to fly, or some kind of major transformative feat but we can settle for another kind of image on another kind of screen we suppose.

Look for the new SkyDrive app in the Social category of the Xbox Live apps area where it should pop up at some point today – although you'll need Gold membership on Xbox Live so it doesn't exactly come free.

See the app in action in the video below:
