OUYA firmware update lets gamers change their payment info

OUYA update lets gamers change their payment info

OUYA vowed a steady stream of updates to its inaugural console on the road to a June retail launch, and it just released one of the more important examples. Among other fixes, the inconspicuously titled 1.0.193 firmware upgrade lets customers change their credit card info after they've created an account -- rather vital to anyone who has to swap cards in the wake of identity theft, or who just wants to gift an account to a friend. While few owners beyond the earliest adopters will fully appreciate the change, it's good to know that there shouldn't be a payment panic when OUYA units arrive in force.

PlayStation Vita's firmware update 2.10 adding folders, enhanced video playback

PlayStation Vita's firmware update 210 adding folders, enhanced video playback

Tired of all those messy icons cluttering up your PlayStation Vita's home screen? Sony's providing a solution in its next update, firmware version 2.10, which enables folders of up to 10 items to be organized on the screen. That means you could potentially take those 100 max applications allowed and stuff them all into folders on the home screen, effectively condensing your various home screens from 10 to one. The rest of the update isn't so thrilling -- namely, being able to identify which memory card you've got in the device, some email app enhancements, and video support which "allows you to play video within the browser." There're a few more minor tweaks, which we've included in the list past the jump -- a complete list of updates in gritty detail will show up here when the update goes live at some point "later this evening."

Create folders to more easily manage your favorite application icons on the home screen, with up to 10 icons in each folder and a maximum of 100 on the home screen (including icons inside the folders). Verify which PS Vita card you are using by looking at the home screen's info bar. You can also save the layout of your home screen icons in the memory card. Added video support allows you to play videos within the browser (memory card required; some videos are not supported). New email enhancements allows you to view HTML messages, add multiple email addresses to your contacts, and easily search your messages using the new search feature. PlayStation Plus members will be able to automatically update PlayStation Mobile format software and upload game save data onto online storage using 3G connection. New "Mute Automatically" option will mute your PS Vita speakers when your headset is unplugged and pause your music when using the music app.

Nintendo PSA: update the firmware for that gift Wii U

Nintendo Wii U review wrap-up

So you're the very definition of generosity and plan to put a Wii U under the tree for that special someone. Nintendo just provided a helpful tip to keep the kindness going beyond Christmas morning, if it's not too late: update that Wii U's firmware before you wrap the box. Unless the recipients are wired up with Google Fiber, they'll likely face a long wait as that 5GB patch arrives. The process will spoil the unboxing experience, to be sure -- but so does realizing that it's another two hours before anyone can use the eShop and Netflix. Trust us, they'll thank you for it later.

Upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 firmware offers improved camera quality

Upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 firmware offers improved camera qualityNokia will soon give Lumia 920 users improved image quality

If you're a Lumia 920 owner who's been getting less than stunning image quality from Nokia's flagship Windows Phone 8 smartphone, an upcoming firmware update might be just what the doctor ordered.

Engadget reported Monday that Nokia is preparing a firmware update to address image softness in photos taken with its Lumia 920 handset, which will be rolled into a larger Microsoft update already announced.

The website managed to get its hands on two sets of identical photos: One taken with the current PR1.0 firmware, and another with the upcoming PR1.1 update.

The newer firmware appears to clearly fix fuzziness problems that have been plaguing Lumia 920 owners since its early November launch.

Nokia's PR1.1 firmware is expected to arrive alongside a larger Windows Phone 8 operating system update expected in December, which was already confirmed by Nokia's U.S. Twitter support team late last week.

That update will include the ability to decline calls via SMS along with improvements to web browsing, LTE and the overall stability of Windows Phone 8 devices.

While Engadget sources have confirmed the PR1.1 update, it may not be a cure-all, as white balance issues reportedly remain, even after the latest firmware.

Nokia did not respond to TechRadar's request for comment by the time this post was published.
