Distro Issue 76: Will a duo of phones and a new OS bring BlackBerry back to life?

Distro Issue 76 Will a duo of new phones and a new OS be enough to bring BlackBerry back to life

After delays and a software preview, RIM BlackBerry finally pulled the wraps off of it's new hardware and operating system that we'd been looking for the end of January to bring. In this week's edition of our e-publication, we take a look at all of the wares that the Canadian company unveiled in order to determine if it's enough to reinvent the outfit. We also rundown the history of the unit formally known as Research in Motion to paint a complete picture of the road leading up to this week's proceedings. Of course, there's more than just BlackBerry stuffs to peruse. Hands-On visits NAMM 2013, Weekly Stat tallies up earnings season and we get cozy with the Pebble Smartwatch. There's plenty of time for a bit of weekend reading, so head to your favorite repository to snag the goods.

It's Apple v Google in the latest thermonuclear issue of tech. The battle, the war

The latest issue of tech. has hit the newsstand and this week the focus is on the 'thermonuclear' war between Google and Apple.

It was two years ago that the now sadly-departed Steve Jobs publicly stated his desire to take on Android because it was a 'stolen' product - but has the battle since become a minor skirmish?

Tech. Associate Editor James Stables explains: "We look at how the battle has changed, with Android's unprecedented success and the Apple Maps debacle.

"Plus, there's all the reaction from Instagram's terms and conditions gaffe and round up the best tech articles of the week," he adds.

"We also look at Yahoo's last attempt to turn around its fortunes and feature the biggest and best tech reviews."

Of course, for anyone that has checked out the mag you will also be getting all the interactive and regular awesomeness that you are accustomed to, and there's still the option of getting five issues free when you sign up for a subscription.

So what are you waiting for? Download the new issue of tech. from iTunes now.

PlayStation: The Official Magazine being shuttered, will say farewell with holiday issue

By Alexis Santos posted Nov 7th 2012 8:31AM PlayStation: The Official Magazine being shuttered, will say farewell with holiday issue

The publisher of PlayStation: The Official Magazine has confirmed to Game Informer that the Sony-minded periodical will board up its doors by year's end. This isn't the first gaming zine that publisher Future US has called it quits on this year -- news of Nintendo Power's closure broke this August. Just like the Nintendo-centric themed publication, the PlayStation mag's last issue will be its holiday edition. However, unlike Newsweek's leap to a purely digital existence, there's no indication that the magazine could see life online.
