GoComics app released for iOS, Android & Windows Phone, puts Calvin & Hobbes in your palm on the go

If you're an avid reader of the many comic strips on Universal Uclick's GoComics website, you'll be pleased to know the company's recently released its first app for mobile devices. Optimized for tablets and smartphones running Windows Phone, Android and iOS, the company states that the free app serves as the "official home" on mobile for its syndicated comics. Notably, this includes the likes of the full Calvin & Hobbes archives, along with Universal Uclick citing it as the exclusive portal to Dilbert strips on mobile. We won't keep you any longer now that you know, so head over to the appropriate source link if you'd like to download it for yourself.

LG Cinema Beam short-throw laser projector and 100-inch screen released in Korea

LG Cinema Beam shortthrow laser projector and 100inch screen released in Korea

One of LG's more surprising product introductions at CES 2013 was its "HECTO" laser projector, which -- when combined with its accompanying 100-inch screen -- is capable of tossing a 1080p image from just 22-inches away. While we'd heard it's coming to the US in March, the projector is out in Korea today branded Cinema Beam TV, available for those ready to drop 9 million won ($8,322) on the package. It has a claimed 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and can accept video via WiDi or Miracast for wireless streaming from a PC or mobile device, while LG also says its laser light source is eco-friendly thanks to a mercury free design and extra long lifetime. The price tag is said to be around $10K when it ships here, apparently the company feels its unique capabilities make it a perfect fit for commercial installations like sports bars, or just high-end home theater customers that value its small footprint.

YouTube Player API released for Android app developers

YouTube Player API released for Android app developersEasier video integration for Android apps

YouTube has launched the long awaited Player API for Android developers, allowing app-makers to seamlessly integrate clips from the popular sharing site.

The YouTube Player API for Android was first announced at Google I/O in June, but it has taken until the year's end to get the tool out of the Mountain View doors.

In a post on the YouTube API blog, the company says clips can now be now viewable within applications with no webview required.

Developers can easily add high quality video (for phones running Android 2.2 and above), with full screen and orientation change support.

The company announced: "Adding a high-quality video experience to your Android application just got a whole lot easier.

"Starting today, you can embed and play YouTube videos in your app using the new YouTube Android Player API."

Among the applications that were granted early access and have already employed the API are Flipboard and Buzzfeed.
