Latest web leak showcases budget-minded BlackBerry R10

11:55 PM

Leaked images from a BlackBerry fan site in China show what is allegedly the firm’s next smartphone, the BlackBerry R10. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen images of the phone find their way to the web as previous leaks have shown a white handset followed by one in red.

The device is rumored to ship with a 3.1-inch display operating at a resolution of 720 x 720, a 5-megapixel rear camera, 2GB of system memory, 8GB of internal flash storage and a 1,800mAh battery that isn’t removable. All of this, of course, is in addition to running the latest version of BB10. Earlier sources suggested the phone would launch sometime during the third quarter for between $300 to $400 without carrier subsidy. No word yet on how much it would cost with a contract, however.

The BlackBerry R10 is expected to be the low-end version of the spendy ($250 with a two year contract) BlackBerry Q10 that’s destined to launch soon in the US. The black version in this leak features a glossy finish much like the other two leaks and is similar to the BlackBerry Curve. At first glance, it looks a lot like an older iPhone from the rear, what with the black plastic body and all.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for confirmation on the validity of this leak as the annual BlackBerry Live conference is scheduled to kick off next week at the Orlando World Center Marriot in sunny Orlando, Florida.
