Samsung's 65-, 55-inch Ultra HDTVs will ship to the US in August

Samsung Expands Its Ultra High-Definition TV Lineup in the U.S. With New F9000 Series

New 55- and 65-inch UHD Models Offering Brilliant Picture Quality and Superior Upconverting Technology Are Available for Pre-Order from July 21

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsung's best-in-class Ultra High-Definition (UHD) TV family is expanding in the United States. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. today announced its next wave of UHD TV models with the introduction of the F9000 line. They will be available for pre-order starting July 21. Offered in 55- and 65-inch models, the F9000 UHD TVs take home entertainment to a new level by delivering the highest resolution and best-in-class picture quality, regardless of video source.

"Revolutionizing the home entertainment viewing experience is a hallmark of the Samsung brand"
Following in the footsteps of the award-winning Samsung S9 UHD TV introduced earlier this year, the F9000 series offers four times the resolution of Full HD TV for a vivid, crystal-clear picture. The F9000 UHD TV utilizes Samsung's proprietary Quadmatic Picture Engine, a four-step process including signal analysis, noise minimization, UHD up-scaling and detail enhancement to seamlessly upconvert SD, HD or Full HD content to UHD-level picture quality. Both the TV and its software can be upgraded to be compatible with future UHD standards with a separate Evolution Kit.

"Revolutionizing the home entertainment viewing experience is a hallmark of the Samsung brand," said Joe Stinziano, Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics America. "The F9000 series are Evolutionary TVs that will give consumers great peace of mind in their entertainment investment. Now home entertainment lovers will have the opportunity to truly see and enjoy their favorite shows and movies like never before, in crystal-clear ultra high-definition, and in the beautifully designed 55- and 65-inch sizes they demand."

The new models feature Samsung Smart TV, designed to help consumers search less and watch more. The new Smart Hub interface organizes entertainment and content into five convenient panels: On TV, Movies and TV Shows, Social, Apps as well as Photos, Videos and Music. The built-in S Recommendation feature helps customers discover something new to watch, now or next time. And with Smart Interaction, the F9000 UHD TV is brought to life as consumers use hand gestures or voice commands to navigate and browse, creating a new and interactive TV experience.

With Samsung's Precision Black Local Dimming technology, the F9000 UHD TV delivers a much greater increase in contrast and black levels by dimming LEDs in dark areas of the picture, making blacks darker without affecting brighter elements of the picture. It also features Micro Dimming Ultimate, which combines the use of a special algorithm and scanning technology for sharper images and enhanced contrast. The F9000 series comes with 3D technology as well as built-in Wi-Fi and an embedded camera for staying connected with friends. The fast quad-core processor enables true multitasking capabilities between content and apps for a premium Smart TV experience.

The F9000 UHD TV comes with 2-way 2.2 channels of 70-watt sound, which is more than three times better than a typical TV. This system provides a dynamic range of sounds for a commanding and outstanding experience to complement the UHD picture.

Designed to create an immersive picture, the F9000 UHD TV features Samsung's award-winning Ultra Slim Bezel design, providing a virtually edgeless picture. The TV design also extends to the rear of the TV with Samsung's Clean Back design and comes with the stylish Arc Stand -- an eye-catching complement that enhances the interior design of any room.

Starting July 21, the F9000 will be available for pre-order in the U.S. with select authorized retailers for an estimated retail price of $5,499.99 for the 55-inch model and $7,499.99 for the 65-inch TV. Shipping of the F9000 UHD TV is expected in early August.

How would you change Samsung's Series 9?

Samsung Series 9 review 13inch, mid2012

It's not that many devices that we ever really go to bat for, but Samsung's Series 9 Ultrabook has a small place in our heart. When we reviewed the mid-2012 refresh, we could only find a few problems -- the flaky trackpad, the limited storage options and the fact it was a bit on the pricey side. We've known for a while that Samsung's product engineers scour your comments for useful suggestions, so if you bought one of these, why not share your experiences with 'em?

LG trolls Samsung's Times Square billboards with Optimus G '4' ads

LG trolls Samsung's Times Square billboards with Optimus G '4' ads

The press is headed to Radio City Music Hall for Samsung's Galaxy S IV event in a few hours, but the company has also taken up consumer-focused presence in Times Square -- where rival LG is waiting. As shown in the pic, LG has refashioned its billboards (which it already occupied for 20 years before the new neighbor moved in below last year) to mock Samsung's "4" themed advertising, touting that the Optimus G is "here 4 you now", among other messages. They'd probably have a better chance of grabbing our attention if the upgraded Optimus G Pro were here 4 us instead, but that's not an option yet. Still, we have to appreciate a prank pulled off well enough that it even scores some screen time in a Samsung promo video (at :49 and 2:04) embedded after the break.

Samsung's David Eun: ongoing Apple v. Samsung litigation 'a loss' for innovation

Samsung's David Eun ongoing Apple v Samsung litigation 'a loss' for innovation

David Eun, presently serving as EVP at Samsung's Open Innovation Center after stints at AOL, Google, Time Warner and NBC Entertainment, just took the stage here in Dana Point, California during the opening night of D:Dive Into Media 2013. While the interview was certainly a wide-ranging one, one particular diversion caught our ear. Breaking from discussions on Eun's view of Samsung as a content company, Swisher asked Eun quite pointedly about its relationship with Apple. Eun chuckled a bit, making quite clear that he himself was not the whole of Samsung. While Eun wouldn't comment on the specifics of the ongoing litigation, he did note that as a evangelist of Silicon Valley and a consumer of technology, he views the deadlock as "a loss."

It was actually a pretty candid response, and it was clear from his body language that he truly is less than thrilled that the legal struggles are ongoing. As Eun noted, Samsung makes money each time an iPhone is sold, yet the two companies are indeed competitors on some levels. Eun confessed that he'd simply have to let the lawyers battle it out, but it was quite refreshing to hear a Samsung executive admit what most laypeople have long since believed: that the patent quibbles are hindering innovation on the whole.

We'll be reporting live from D:Dive Into Media as it continues on February 11-12. You can follow our coverage by using the "dmedia2013" tag.

Samsung's 55-inch OLED 3D HDTV eyes-on: one set, multiple views

Image

Look closely at the image above. See that clear portion depicting a food fight? That's coming through the right lens of dedicated eyewear made specifically for Samsung's 55-inch OLED Multi-View HDTV. The sleek, silver-trimmed 1080p set, recently unveiled at CES 2013, utilizes a quad-core processor and 240Hz refresh rate to send specific "firing patterns" to a user's eyewear that's then filtered out by swapping the input control (A /B) located above the left ear. The actual 3D effect varies from an artificial seeming emphasis on layers of depth, to the more traditional, and quite impressive, "in your face" immersive experience. Multiple input configurations are also possible, allowing users in the same room to watch either two separate 3D images, one 3D plus two 2D images or four 2D images simultaneously. So, basically, you can keep playing your PS3 while a loved one watches Homeland.

The 55-inch set also comes equipped with an inbuilt webcam that's tucked just behind the top front panel and supports Samsung's Smart Hub. Pricing hasn't been made known at this time, but you should see the Multi-View set hit retail sometime mid-July 2013.

Samsung's Galaxy S3 extended battery to become available Jan. 5, in Germany at least

Android Central

Before the holidays, an OEM extended battery kit surfaced for the Samsung Galaxy S3, initially going on pre-order at a British retailer. While that same retailer is still taking pre-orders for the item without an expected shipping date, Amazon Germany has gone one better.

According to the item's listing on Amazon.de, the Samsung Extended Battery Kit will become available on January 5. Pricing is relatively consistent with earlier reports, coming in at €39.90, slightly cheaper even than the expected RRP of £40 (€48) in the UK. There is no word yet on if/when we can expect to see wider availability of this.

Additionally, click on past the break for a quick video -- in Slovenian, and you'll want to spin on to about 1:05 -- which demonstrates the extended battery and replacement battery door. The best news? It doesn't seem to add much additional thickness to the phone.

Samsung's new 10nm-process 64GB mobile flash memory chips are smaller, faster, better

Samsung Introduces Advanced Memory Storage Solution for Slim Smartphones and Tablets
SEOUL, Korea on Nov. 15. 2012

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced a next-generation 64GB embedded multimedia card (eMMC) using 10 nanometer (nm)-class* process technology. The new 64Gb NAND memory went into production late last month.

Myungho Kim, vice president of Memory marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics noted, "The new high-speed, small form factor eMMC reinforces Samsung's technology leadership in storage memory solutions. We look forward to expanding our line-up of embedded memory solutions in conjunction with the new chip's design, in pursuing a system-level adoption of application processors and other key components that form the foundation for the most advanced mobile platforms. This will allow us to better attend to time-to-market demands enabling the design of more convenient features for next-generation mobile applications."

Embedded memory is the key memory component in popular mobile applications such as smartphones and tablets. Advanced high-performance, high-density eMMCs allow users to access high-density and high-resolution content such as full HD video on their latest mobile devices and provide a better user experience for web browsing, gaming and running rich applications.

Samsung is applying 64Gb high-performance NAND memory using its10nm-class technology to the new 64GB eMMC Pro Class 2000 memory solution. The new embedded memory solution exceeds the performance levels of the conventional 64GB eMMC Pro Class 1500 based on an eMMC 4.5 interface.

The new high-speed eMMC will be submitted next year to the industry standards body JEDEC, (Joint Electron Engineering Council) for adoption as an industry standard.

Samsung's next-generation 64GB eMMC Pro Class 2000 comes just five months after the company introduced its first embedded memory supporting the eMMC4.5 interface and delivers a 30 percent advantage in performance over that solution.

The 10nm-class technology based NAND also is process compatible to Samsung's advanced 20nm-class* 64Gb MLC NAND, which was first available last May, improving manufacturing productivity by 30 percent.

The new memory solution has a random write speed of 2,000 IOPS (input/output per second) and a random read speed of 5,000 IOPS. In addition, sequential read and write speeds are 260 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 50MB/s respectively, which is up to 10 times faster than a class 10 external memory card that reads at 24MB/s and writes at 12MB/s, greatly enhancing the smoothness of multitasking on mobile gadgets.

Current mobile applications show a distinctive trend to slimmer designs and larger display screens, while using advanced multi-core processors and high density (2 Gigabyte) LPDDR2 memory for higher performance, with larger batteries for longer usage on a single charge. This new chip accommodates the increasing size limitations of mobile form factors at the component level.

The 64GB eMMC Pro Class 2000 measures 11.5mm by 13mm, which represents a 20 percent reduction in size over the conventional embedded memory form factor (12mm by 16mm).

Samsung's Android-Powered Galaxy Camera Will Cost a Whopping $500

This story will display in ...Nov 12, 2012 1:01 PM

Samsung's Android-Powered Galaxy Camera Will Cost a Whopping $500 The Samsung Galaxy Camera, that bizarre Android Frankenstein cam we love to love, is going to be hitting store shelves this Friday, November 16th for a whopping $500.

The crazy smart camera is coming to AT&T's 4G network, but the $500 price tag doesn't even include any kind of data plan; you'll have to lock it into one of AT&T's standard data plans at an additional price. If you buy the camera along with a Samsung handset though, you'll qualify for a $100 discount on the total, which could take a little of the edge off.

The specs on this device have been a known quantity for a while, but it'll be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, features a 4.8-inch HD display, a quad-core 1.4 GHz processor, a 21x optical zoom lens, and a 16-megapixel backside illuminated CMOS sensor. It's a sweet little device, but the price tag is going to make it a bit hard to swallow, especially since you'll need a data plan on top if you really want to make good on its potential. Taking pictures straight from your camera to the web is nice, but it's going to cost you.
